Le Cri Du Caire – 20.04.2024

Presented by Salam Music Festival in collaboration with DE/SEMBLE.

We are excited to collaborate with SALAM MUSIC FESTIVAL to present the extraordinary trio LE CRI DU CAIRE for the first time in Vienna.

Midway between Sufi poetry, jazz and spoken word, LE CRI DU CAIRE creates a metaphorical universe that transcends identities and borders.

In harmony with the circular breathing of Peter Corser’s saxophone and the ‘baroque’ strings of Karsten Hochapfel’s cello, responds the gripping voice of Abdullah Miniawy, a young Egyptian poet and singer, craving for freedom and justice. His hypnotic Sufi singing, alternating between compelling whispers and passionately cried-out poetry, drives the audience into an intense trance. Spirituality and freedom shine through his music, carrying the hopes of the oppressed amidst political, social, and religious repression.

Abdullah Miniawy: vocals, lyrics, music
Peter Corser: saxophone, clarinet, music
Karsten Hochapfel: cello
